Automatic backup runs locally through macOS—even when the app is closed—and needs the Mac and your chosen Vault folder to be available. It is not real-time sync.

Why not just do it yourself?
Three different jobs.
Codex is where you work. A separate backup is how you keep a copy you control. The complete engine is MIT licensed and free if you prefer to build the workflow yourself.

Beta: Vault can miss Codex history stored only in a separate database. Keep your old Mac and an independent backup until you verify recovery or migration. Migration replaces selected destination data; it does not merge two active workspaces.

Before you buy.
Is the backup really automatic?
Yes. During your first backup, daily automatic backup is selected by default; you can choose manual-only instead. After that first snapshot verifies, a private macOS LaunchAgent adds one encrypted snapshot every 24 hours—even when the app is closed—while the Mac and chosen Vault folder are available. Existing snapshots are kept. This is scheduled backup, not continuous sync.
Where does my data go?
Vault writes encrypted snapshots to the local, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud-sync folder you choose. Segeren Studio does not host or receive them. Website analytics never receives your Codex conversations. The app itself has no telemetry.
What is backed up versus migrated?
Vault protects active and archived conversation transcripts. Full Mac migration also moves selected configuration, skills, automations, repositories, branches, worktrees, and unfinished files. Authentication and installation identity are deliberately excluded.
Can I try the Mac beta?
Yes. The signed, notarized beta is $49 one time for Apple silicon Macs, with best-effort support and a 30-day refund policy. The complete CLI and source remain free. Windows and cross-platform transfers are not supported today.
